Proposals

Seismo Ped Etch-a-sketch

Amy Franceschini, Futurefarmers

A network of sensors embedded in the Great Park communicate with Satellite Parks to collect human activity patterns. These patterns are traced via communication between Great Park Sensor Network and Satellite Parks and are uploaded to a public server to be viewed. The activity is accumulated during seismic activity. The data is aggregated and formatted as a drawing via custom software. A gallery of drawings accumulate over time which reveal patterns of activity in the park. Seism-a-sketch reveals a comparison between planned park usage and subversion of intended use providing useful data to urban planners. A color scheme reveals this discrepancy.

The Great Park Fairytale: El Toro (An Epic)

Amy Franceschini/Myriel Milicevic

A fairytale based on the factual data gathered by Futurefarmers. The history and future are intertwined to take readers on an evolutionary adventure. T

Solar Music Box Forest

Amy Franceschini/Stijn Schiffeleers
Seismo Ped Etch-a-sketch Amy Franceschini, Futurefarmers Networked walkers leave traces of the paths they traverse in the park. These drawings are uploaded to a public server to be viewed. The screen is cleared during seismic activity above 2.0. The drawings are archived between seismic activities and available online to view. The park will be designed in such a way to prompt certain paths, those who subvert or go of the beatenn track will cause their lines to change colors.

Community Garden Plots
Amy Franceschini

Plots of land will be distriuted among Orange County residents to grow food, and plants. Each resident is responsible for the reuse of the asphalt that was once an airstrip. Residents may grow in boxes on top of the asphault, make sculptural elements out of it, or dispose of it in a safe and legal manner.

Satellite Parks

Amy Franceschini/Myriel Milicevic

A distributed network of Satellite Parks (SP).which facilitate "park" to a number of locations. Satellite Parks provide; on-call park services, environmental research + monitoring, data clouds providing free wireless services (the satellites can be contacted and organized by a majority to gather for large coverage in cases of protest or high demand).

Ad-hoc Ecosystems
Amy Franceschini/Myriel Milicevic

Bioremediation Plot Networks
Ryan Griffis/TEMPORARY TRAVEL OFFICE

A monument to the ongoing history of land use in Southern California: Networked bioremediation garden plots.

The Alignment Project
Karl + Ruth Kempton and Norman Hammond

Alignment Project uses the concept of ancient, recent and newly designed solstice, lunar and stellar alignment sites as a basis for large and small earth landscape/sculpture gardens created by artists of many disciplines. This project would be dedicated to the Native California Peoples who for thousands of years maintained solstice and lunar alignments sites throughout their lands. This multi-group project includes making of a series of aligned solstice sites that span the park along solar, lunar, stellar and galactic alignment lines. This project can easily extend across the state and nation by bringing in other county and state groups.

Alignment Project is a central hub/site that other sites align with along solar, lunar, stellar or galactic events. Each component or "satellite site" would be encouraged to address alignments and events within their own site according to the creator’s interests.

Ecology Research Greenhouse: Former Radio Control Tower
Amy Franceschini

A glass house eco-research center serving universities, amateurs and enthusiasts a controlled, networked growing environment. This tower is one in several of a global network of formerly abandoned military control towers. The Eco-Tower network is a collaborative research effort.
